Iain MacNair, who was staying at the Parkside Hotel in Woughton on the Green, set off 100 sky lanterns after his wedding the day before.

On the same night six 'UFO sightings' were reported to Thames Valley Police after people from the area saw mysterious lights moving through the sky.

Last week a police spokesman said that 'no one knows what they are'.

Mr McNair, an IT analyst from Stantonbury who married Tracy, said: "It was our wedding the day before, but the weather was bad so we postponed the Thai sky lanterns until the next day.

"We knew straight away that the UFO sightings were actually our Thai sky lanterns aka Chinese Flying Lanterns or Floating Lanterns. Now there are some videos of the UFOs on Youtube with some really really funny comments."

Mystery solved! The strange lights spotted in the north Essex skies at the weekend were sky lanterns released at a wedding, it was confirmed today. SkyLanterns2u.com said it was hired by a bride and groom to launch the miniature hot air balloons at a reception held at Crabbs Barn in Kelvedon.The venue is a stone's throw from the A12, where dozens of motorists stopped to gaze heavenwards after spotting them hovering above the road on Sunday night.

ALIEN invasions by fleets of UFOs were probably displays of Chinese sky lanterns. Experts say the spacecraft sighted around the country were more than likely lit and released at weddings.
The lanterns can be more than 9ft high and the latest flood of UFO reports have now been traced to the antics of revellers at a beach party.

Dozens of locals dialled 999 after spotting strange lights out at sea.
But they were brought down to Earth yesterday when coastguards revealed the source was 50 giant sky lanterns. The 3ft tall man-made lights, with burning candles inside, were released into the night sky by party-goers at a beach rave in Hastings, Sussex, at 10pm on Wednesday. Minutes later the emergency services started receiving panicky calls.

It is going to be a daytime mass launch. Our client requested their logo to be printed on the lanterns to maximise brand exposure for the launch.
